Unsure what a CSA is? Or curious what the program looks like at the Sparrows Keep?

Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, is the formation of a personal relationship, between the farmer, and the consumer.
A CSA member pays for a entire seasons worth of vegetables before the season starts. This enables the farmer to make seed purchases, perform equipment repair, purchase supplies, and make a accurate plan to ensure a bountiful year!
By becoming a member, you are entitled to a weekly share of the garden. But you can’t have the good, without the bad. This includes a share of any crop failures. While we give everything to make every crop a success, every now and then they don’t succeed. But remember, a failure one place, usually heralds a bounty in another!
The great part of being a member, is the connection you make with the food you eat. If you opt in for the working share, that connection is deepened as you learn how the different vegetables grow, and what it takes to harvest them!
It is a great learning experience for all ages, regardless if you join as a regular member, or a working share member!
The share breakdown:
There are three types of shares to choose from, the full season, the cottage share, and the salad share.
Full Season is 17 weeks, starting June 20th to Thanksgiving. This share costs $585
Cottage Share is 11 weeks, starting June 20th to Labour Day. This share costs $385
Salad Share is a smaller offering. It is built around a bag of our delicious mixed salad greens, and 4-5 salad type veggies! You can purchase this for either the full season, or just for the summer. It will be $20/week

What is in our harvest box!?
Our Full season/Cottage share is enough vegetables for 2 people who like their vegetables, or a family with small children. We aim to have between 7 and 11 different vegetables every week for the full size shares, and 4-5 for the Salad share. The types of vegetables you will get depend on the time of the season, and how the weather has been cooperating. You can expect more greens and short season crops in the spring. Mid season you will start getting some of the hot season crops like tomatoes and peppers. And in the fall our long season and storage crops, like potatoes and squash!
How do I get my veggies?
Every Friday your share will be harvested fresh, and available for pick up at Quaker Oaks Farm from 11:00am-3:00pm. While our preference is for you to come during the in person Friday pick up, we recognize that life happens. So we will be offering a self serve pick up fridge for Saturday pickup. We will not hold shares in the fridge past Saturday to ensure the freshness. If you can’t commit to picking up your veggies at these times, then the CSA share is not for you. While we live and work at the farm, we can’t always be on hand to harvest and put your share together.
What else is included in with my subscription?
Member benefits include access to the barn yard, and garden tours! These can be set up with prior notice, and all are welcome!
Please feel free to send us a message for more information, as well as payment options, on our CSA program!
